Leyton Orient have dropped out of the Football League for the first time in 112 years after failing to beat Crewe at Gresty Road.

Orient went into Saturday's game knowing anything short of victory would confirm their relegation to the National League after a difficult campaign.

The Os, who were on the brink of winning a place in the Championship when they lost the 2014 League One play-off final to Rotherham on penalties, have won just 10 fixtures this season, losing 27.

But Leyton Orient's difficulties on the pitch have been arguably been surpassed by issues off it.

Danny Webb became the fourth manager to leave the club this season when he resigned in March just days after the the club faced a winding-up order over an unpaid tax bill in the High Court.

The winding-up petition was adjourned until June 12 after the club settled a £250,000 debt.

But it is understood players are still waiting for their March wages after a 20-day delay.

Staff this week took the unprecedented step of releasing a statement to say they have had no correspondence from owner Francesco Becchetti or Orient directors after seeking assurances of their salaries.

Becchetti has been urged to walk away by the club's fans, and is prepared to listen to offers for the club.

The controversial Italian owner has rejected one approach from a potential buyer.
