Brendan Rodgers is confident Liverpool will qualify for the Champions League despite failing to strengthen his squad last month.

Chelsea hijacked Liverpool’s bid for Egypt winger Mohamed Salah and the Reds missed out with a deadline-day move for Ukraine’s Yevhen Konoplyanka. Manchester City also rejected a loan offer from them for defender Micah Richards.

Liverpool are fourth in the table — buoyed by the goals of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez — and Rodgers believes they will hold on to that spot.

“Every manager will always want more but we can’t affect that any more,” said the Liverpool boss.

“We have now 14 League games remaining and we have the players here who have taken us this far. We’re up there at the moment and I can only be optimistic about what we can achieve with the players we have.”
