Former Arsenal and Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas has hailed Liverpool as “outstanding” and says the club “hit the jackpot” when they hired Jurgen Klopp.

The German arrived at Anfield in October 2015 and immediately began improving the club’s fortunes, reaching the EFL and Europa League finals in the same campaign before securing Champions League qualification in his first full season in charge.

In 2018, the Reds were runners-up to Real Madrid in the Champions League but Klopp secured his first piece of silverware with victory over Tottenham in the final 12 months later.

This season, Liverpool were well on their way to a first Premier League title in record-breaking fashion when the coronavirus shutdown halted football, sitting a massive 25 points clear of defending champions Manchester City.

Their eventual crowning would represent the culmination of Klopp’s gradual transformation – which has also seen a wholesale overhaul of playing staff – and Fabregas believes the club are reaping the rewards of giving their manager both time and money.

Asked for his opinion of Liverpool in a Twitter Q&A, Fabregas said: “Outstanding club that hit the jackpot hiring Klopp and giving him the right players and time to build something very special.”
