Jurgen Klopp has refused to give anything away about Liverpool’s plans for Rhian Brewster following a ‘nearly perfect’ loan spell with Swansea City.

Since joining the Welsh club on a temporary deal in January, the 20-year-old has scored seven goals in 15 appearances.

That run of form combined with the Reds’ reluctance to dip into the transfer market due to the financial impact of coronavirus have led to suggestions that Brewster could get an opportunity at Anfield next term.

But, while Klopp acknowledged that the London-born striker has thrived under Steve Cooper, he remained coy on his prospects of representing Liverpool next term.

The manager said: “Our plans for Rhian, we [discuss with] Rhian and not here, and there’s nothing to say about it really.

“But yes, it was unbelievably important, I was really happy that we had the opportunity to do something.

“Not only that he plays his first proper senior year [but] he had an awful injury so he needed a really long time.

“It made more sense to be here as striker two, three, whatever, sometimes in the squad, sometimes not.

“It was clear, his situation was different to a lot of other situations with boys at the club, and I was really happy that he could go to a coach he had at the U17s youth national team.

“They really wanted him and that is very important for a young striker because you cannot score every week and he still should stay on the pitch.

“He had that now at Swansea, they had a good season and Rhian shows absolutely his talent, that’s clear.

“At the moment, it’s nearly perfect how it is, but how it will be next year we will talk about with his representatives.”

Two of Liverpool’s other high-profile talents, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones, both penned extensions to their contracts with the club last week.

Asked about that news, Klopp intimated that both players are close to making a first-team breakthrough, but insisted that patience will remain important in the short-term.

He added: “We are a good team and we have a good age group but the future is already prepared with a few really good footballers around us.

“I’m really happy that the boys see it the same way because, I said it a lot of times, for young players, the biggest plus they have is time but in the moment they lose patience things can go not exactly like they should go.

“Our boys want to play, want to be involved, see it every day in training that they are really close - but they did not lose patience that they don’t play 90 minutes every three days.

“We try to help them as much as we can to become the best player they can be, that’s what we do with all the players but with the younger ones the responsibility on our side is even bigger.

“That’s why I really like that these boys are committed 100 per cent to that way and it’s a wonderful sign for all of us. The next few are already lined up, if you want.

“Our academy is producing a lot of good players in the last few years and we are really happy that the boys want to be part of that process even when it’s the first time in their life that they don’t play week in, week out.

“They have a lot to learn, I think they’ve got the time to do it, that’s it.”
