Liverpool are enjoying a season few have bettered over the years and should be celebrating their first ever Premier League title.

The coronavirus pandemic put pause on any early celebrations and now the future of the campaign, and any coronation, is severely in doubt.

Jurgen Klopp, though, is still looking ahead and this week said “this team is not the finished article, it’s not done." He added: "We have a lot of space for improvement and we work on that."

One area that has been highlighted a possible need for reinforcement is midfield.

So, who should Liverpool sign or trust in the current squad to step up?

Ever since Liverpool's move for his then-Lyon teammate Nabil Fekir fell through at the last moment, Houssem Aouar has been strongly linked with making the same switch.

The 21-year-old is considered one of the most talented young attacking midfielders in Europe and has regularly caught the eye for his hometown club in recent years.

It seems to have been rather quickly forgotten that Jurgen Klopp did make an attacking midfield signing in January when he brought Takumi Minamino to the club from RB Salzburg.

The Japanese has endured a slow start, with much of his action coming in the FA Cup, but he showed what he was all about with a stunning performance as a visitor to Anfield in the Champions League earlier this season and supporters should be excited about what is to come.

While he is keen to bring more silverware to Anfield in the coming seasons, Klopp won't allow the club's youngsters to get pushed aside as a result.

Curtis Jones has taken some big steps forward this season and possesses both the talent and confidence necessary to make the step up to the senior team on a regular basis. Attacking midfield is his role, and he will want to make it his own in the years ahead.
