Reports linking Liverpool to Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette have been branded as 'trash' by the French side's president Jean-Michel Aulas.

Lacazette has enjoyed an impressive season for the Ligue 1 side this term and ended the campaign as France's top scorer with 27 league goals in 33 appearances for Lyon.

The 24-year-old's form for his club resulted in Liverpool - as well as Manchester City, Arsenal and German club Borussia Dortmund - being linked with a potential summer move for the forward, whose current contract with Lyon expires in 2018.

But interest from Brendan Rodgers' side has now been quashed by Lyon's president Aulas, who feels the Reds' lack of involvement in the Champions League rules them out of a move.

"The latest rumours are trash," he wrote on his official Twitter account.

"Liverpool have never called Lyon about Lacazette and without playing in the Champions League they have neither the money nor being able to interest him."

Aulas' comments come after he recently admitted that even a fee of about £36million would not be enough to persuade Lyon to part with Lacazette in the coming months.
