Liverpool transfer news: Reds may have to wait until next summer to sign Alex Song

Liverpool are keen on signing Barcelona’s former Arsenal star Alex Song.

The 27-year-Cameroon international is currently on a season-long loan at West Ham but it is understood that Liverpool want to sign him on a permanent deal, either in January or next summer.

To be able to sign Song in the January transfer window Liverpool would need West Ham and Barcelona’s agreement to cancel the loan deal, which is unlikely.

Song has made a positive impression since joining West Ham and manager Sam Allardyce has made him captain in the absence of injured Kevin Nolan and Mark Noble.

West Ham are likely themselves to be keen to sign Song permanently at the end of the season and the player himself has said he would prefer to stay in London.
