Jurgen Klopp frustrated by VAR as Liverpool winning run ends at Man Utd: 'Everything seemed to go against us'

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp rued the VAR decisions that went against his team as their perfect start to the season came to an end with a 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

The hosts were perhaps fortunate to take the lead after Victor Lindelof appeared to foul Divock Origi in the build-up to Marcus Rashford's opener.

The Reds then had a Sadio Mane strike ruled out for handball in the build-up, which was the correct call, before Adam Lallana's late equaliser.

It means Liverpool's 17-game winning run, stretching back to March, has finally come to an end but Klopp's side are still six points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table.

However, the German questioned VAR's decision to allow the goal to stand and claimed "everything just seemed to go against us."

"The first goal I think everyone can agree it was a foul but with VAR it is not a clear foul. That is the situation," Klopp told BBC Sport.

"We didn't lose but it was an obvious foul. There was clear contact and Divock Origi goes down. They carried on and counter-attacked. Yes, there is contact, I'm sure they said that but it is not a 'clear foul?' That doesn't work. That's just not how it should be.

"Then we got a disallowed goal. I didn't see it back but it was probably handball but everything just seemed to go against us."

Reds captain Jordan Henderson sided with Klopp over the decision to allow Rashford's goal, but called on his side to defend better after being caught out for the opener.

"I felt the referee gave a lot of similar type of free-kicks to them in the first half and he didn't give it to us," he added.

"But we've got to defend the goal better so that's no excuse. Our level wasn't up to our normal level."

Henderson reserved praise for super sub Adam Lallana after coming off the bench to grab the equaliser five minutes from time.

It was the 31-year-old's first league goal since May 2017 and Henderson lauded his team-mate's contribution, adding the point could be important in their quest for a first title in 30 years.

"I'm delighted for Adam because he works hard and he deserves a bit of luck," he told Sky Sports.

"He saved us with his goal and that could be a big point. We could have been better today and in the second half we were much better but if you can't win, don't lose."
