Liverpool injury, suspension list: Team news and predicted line-up vs Wolves

Simon Mignolet is set for a rare start when Liverpool kick off their FA Cup campaign at Wolves on Monday evening.

The Belgian clocked up his only other Reds appearance this season in a League Cup defeat to Chelsea at Anfield back in September.

But he will be restored in place of Alisson Becker when Jurgen Klopp’s team return to domestic cup action early next week.

Klopp said: “[He] will play, of course. The goalkeeper position is a different one but Simon, I could write a book about all the good things I could say about him.

“I’m not sure if you saw it before the Manchester City game warming up, he had seven, eight incredible saves. I’m not sure if I’m happy about that, I thought ‘come on, let them gain a bit of confidence’.

“That’s how he is, he’s a fantastic professional, and did brilliantly so far.”

Klopp also revealed that he is set to ring the changes at Molineux after a busy festive period that saw his team claim a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

“We have to, that’s clear,” he added.

“We came through the intense period now somehow okay, but of course we have to make changes - how many, I don’t know, but we have to.

“There’s no chance for anything else.”

Sixteen-year-old defender Ki-Jana Hoever is tipped to be involved, with Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren in line for a well-earned rest.

That duo’s regular involvement has come as a result of injuries to fellow centre-backs Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, though both players are closing in on a return.

Klopp said: “[Gomez] is getting better but not yet involved. Joel maybe is a bit closer - I’m not sure, but hopefully.

“Joel moves completely normal, we have to see how the bone-healing is, that’s always how it is when something’s broken.

“But from his movements it looks nearly normal but still a few days to go until we can have him in team training, until he is ready for contact - for a centre-half, really important.

“Until then we will make all the fitness work. The good thing is he can do all the fitness work since a week or so [ago], which means when he’s back he will be at least 100 per cent fit.

“Then we have to get rhythm and then everything will be fine.”

Probable XI: Mignolet, Camacho, Hoever, Masterson, Moreno, Keita, Milner, Lallana, Jones, Shaqiri, Sturridge.
