Mike Dean will take charge of Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against Tranmere on Thursday night.

Premier League official Dean is a lifelong Rovers fan with a clip of him wildly celebrating a League Two play-off victory over Forest Green Rovers going viral at the end of last season.

The Wirral man cuts his holidays short to take charge of tonight’s game at Prenton Park.

Liverpool play two games on home soil before jetting out for the US to continue their preparations for the new season.

Liverpool fans had been hoping for an early glimpse of new signing Sepp van den Berg this evening.

However, the club have confirmed that the 17-year-old centre-back is still pending Fifa clearance following his move from PEC Zwolle earlier in June, and is therefore ineligible.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Joe Gomez, Adam Lallana, Joel Matip and Fabinho could also have roles to play off the bench.
