Luis Suarez today revealed the inspiration behind his ‘Incredible Hulk’ goal celebration — his three‑year-old daughter Delfina.
With 29 Premier League goals this season, the Liverpool striker has had a variety of celebrations such as the ‘El Pistolero’ and a kiss on the thumb, index and middle fingers of his hand.
His latest, though, sees him flex his muscles and let out a roar like the Marvel superhero and Suarez has now explained why.
“My daughter loves football, and she likes when I score a goal and celebrate,” said the striker.
“She loves princesses and things like that but I can’t do it [for a celebration] on the pitch!
“But she also likes Hulk, Spiderman and Superman. I told her that when I score, I would do a celebration like Hulk or Superman, so it’s for her. She watches on TV and loves when I do it.”
Suarez needs only three more goals to become the leading scorer in a 38-game season, beating the mark set by Alan Shearer and Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, with five games to go and Liverpool top of the table that landmark is not his priority.
“If I wanted to do that, I could ask Stevie [Gerrard] if I could take a penalty, but I don’t like that,” he told the club’s website. “For myself, it is more important that Liverpool finish in a good position.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool have claimed a clean sweep of the Premier League's monthly awards, with manager Brendan Rodgers, captain Steven Gerrard and top scorer Luis Suarez all honoured for their efforts during the month of March.
Suarez and Gerrard shared the player of the month accolade while Rodgers was recognised as manager of the month after guiding the Reds to five wins from five.
