Loan star Wojciech Szczesny shines

Ian Gibb11 April 2012

So how was it for young Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, put under the spotlight on loan with Brentford after the Gunners' recent stopper problems?

Well, he was clutching the man-of-the-match award following Brentford's 2-1 midweek win over Tranmere after pulling off more smart saves.

And such is his confidence he reckons that he would have stopped Joss Labadie's equaliser — if he'd got sight of it. The 20-year-old said: "I told the manager [Andy Scott] I would have saved it if I had seen it. I put my saves down to not giving up."

Though Scott wants him on loan next season, the Pole fancies the No1 job at Arsenal — and he's demanding a platform with some wonder stops.

His next chance to impress comes when Brentford host Yeovil on Saturday.
