Luka Modric captains Spurs to pre-season draw

11 April 2012

Wantaway midfielder Luka Modric was made captain as Tottenham drew 1-1 with South African champions Orlando Pirates last night.

Modric played 58 minutes before being replaced and manager Harry Redknapp said: "Looking at him tonight it makes you realise how important he is to us. We need him to stay. We cannot afford to lose our best players if we are to progress."

Rafael van der Vaart opened the scoring before Happy Jele equalised with a shot that keeper Brad Friedel deflected into the net on his Spurs debut.
