Former Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski has hit out at Frenchman Arsene Wenger for showing a 'lack of respect'.

The 29-year-old quit Emirates Stadium earlier this month to join Inter Milan on loan after becoming frustrated with his lack of opportunities at the Premier League club.

Podolski scored 31 goals in 82 appearances for the Gunners since joining in 2012, but failed to make a league start under Wenger this term.

And the Germany international felt the Arsenal manager was disrespectful as he teamed up with former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini in Serie A.

"He said nothing to me. He did not call me or say goodbye. I don't need flowers or a kiss from him," Podolski told The Sun.

"But it is about respect, about saying goodbye. For me respect is important. Maybe he had other problems with me."

Podolski regularly expressed his disontent over limited opportunities at Arsenal and felt he wasn't given the chance to prove himself with an extended run in the team.

He added: "If I had been given a run of five or 10 games and played really s---, then I could say: 'Fair enough, I am not good enough.'"
