Benjamin Mendy has been out of action for a while now, but the Manchester City defender has quickly become a cult hero among the club's fans for his social media exploits.

And the 23-year-old left-back was at it again on Thursday night as his City '#SharkTeam' tore Arsenal apart at the Emirates Stadium.

Just days after beating Arsenal 3-0 in Sunday's EFL Cup final at Wembley, City returned to the capital to face the Gunners in the Premier League.

And Pep Guardiola's title favourites raced into a three-goal lead within 33 minutes as Bernardo Silva, David Silva and Leroy Sane struck to embarrass the Gunners.

Mendy was watching the game from the comfort of indoors, but took to Twitter to proclaim: "If you dont like this you dont like football !!! #SharkTeam".

When City went three goals ahead, Mendy rubbed salt into the wounds by tweeting: "Im sorry but we are so good (sic)".

Mendy joined City from Monaco last summer for £52million - then a world record fee for a defender before Virgil Van Dijk's £75m switch from Southampton to Liverpool in January.

Unfortunately for the 23-year-old, Mendy ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against Crystal Palace in September. The wing-back underwent surgery, and remains out of action for the table toppers.
