Aston Villa will "100 per cent" sell Manchester United target Jack Grealish this summer if they are relegated from the Premier League, according to Paul Merson.
Standard Sport understands the Villa captain is high on United's wanted list this summer, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prioritising Grealish over fellow target James Maddison.
The coronavirus pandemic has seen United reassess their transfer plans, meaning a big-money move for top target Jadon Sancho could be shelved in favour of a £60million move for Grealish.
Villa will resume their battle against relegation when the season restarts, sitting two points from safety, and former player Merson expects Grealish to leave if his club are unable to avoid the drop.
"I would say 100 per cent," Merson told Sky Sports when asked if Grealish would be sold this summer.
"If Villa go down then I think they will get rid of Jack and he will be sold.
"He's a Villa man through and through, he loves Aston Villa, but he will have to move on, there is no doubt about that if he wants to better himself.
"It's horrible saying that, better yourself, because it's a great club, but he will have to play in the Premier League. In this day and age, you play in the Premier League if you want to play for England. For me, he would have to be sold.
"I think it probably helps Jack Grealish. I think Jack Grealish was probably a 30-70 or 35-65 against him to go, so one more good season this year.
"I think he will move on and I think it will help him.
