Manchester United were knocked out of European competition entirely as Bayern Munich forward Kingsley Coman scored the only goal of the game in their final Champions League group stage tie.

It was a meek exit for United, who failed to cause much of a problem all night and condemns them to an embarrassingly early exit after a nightmare campaign.

Here's how Erik ten Hag's side rated at Old Trafford...

Andre Onana 6

Didn't have a save to make all night. No chance with Coman finish.

Diogo Dalot 6

Made United's brightest burst of the first-half before being switched to the left at half-time.

Raphael Varane 5

Utterly bizarre piece of defending left Sane space to threaten. Two important headers with Kane lurking behind.

Harry Maguire 6

One vital intervention when Sane threatened to run away before tweaking a groin and limping off before half-time.

Luke Shaw 6

Just about kept up with Coman but replaced at half-time.

Sofyan Amrabat 4

Powerless to stop the fleet-footed pair of Sane and Musiala as they interchanged nicely. Booked.

Scott McTominay 5

Tried to support Hojlund but his legs might have been useful further back. Kimmich was far too clever.

Bruno Fernandes 6

Some nice flicks, a couple of comical collapses and a crucial block on Kane just before half-time. Smashed over with a good chance after the break .

Antony 4

Woefully predictable, though the one time he did dare venture onto his left foot, he controlled the ball straight out of play. Booked for a nasty one on Davies.

Rasmus Hojlund 5

Went into the game as the competition's joint-leading scorer but snuffed out entirely by two excellent centre-backs.

Alejandro Garnacho 6

Got the crowd going early on with some good pressing work.

Substitutes

Jonny Evans (Maguire 40') 6

Pressed into service yet again. Stepped out to leave space for Coman run.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Shaw 46') 6

On at half-time and immediately made Fernandes chance with pull-back. Played Coman onside for goal.

Hannibal Mejbri (Garnacho 75')

Facundo Pellistri (Antony 75')

Kobbie Mainoo (Varane 80')

Unused: Bayindir, Heaton, Reguilon, Gore, Hugill
