West Ham boss Sam Allardyce conceded Manchester City are 'miles better' than his under-strength relegation-battlers after falling to a 6-0 defeat at Etihad Stadium.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce told Sky Sports News: "We're very disappointed but to look at Manchester City's home record this season, we knew they had to have an off night and we needed to have a real good night from our point of view.

"Manchester City's finishing was outstanding, not to mention the build-up play."

He refused to berate his side for their performance and said: "What do you expect when you've got lads on free transfers playing against players that have cost hundreds and hundreds of millions of pounds?

"You can do better than we did but we'd need a fully fit squad.

"I had a left-back playing centre-half that we got on a free transfer (George McCartney) and that's not fair on him really, having to play against Negredo and Dzeko.

"We got (on-loan Wolves defender) Roger Johnson in and I thought he did okay, even though we lost 6-0.

"It's not a good time for us to lose 6-0 but it's not like they haven't done it to anyone else. They've done Manchester United (4-1), done Tottenham (6-0), Arsenal (6-3), and we have to face the fact that they're miles better than us."
