Manchester United confirm Christian Eriksen signing after fierce transfer battle

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Christian Eriksen on a three-year deal.

Eriksen becomes new manager Erik ten Hag’s second summer signing after left-back Tyrell Malacia joined from PSV.

The 30-year-old was the subject of interest from a host of Premier League clubs, including former side Tottenham before interest cooled, after his Brentford contract expired.

The Bees were hopeful of keeping Eriksen beyond a short-term deal in January, but it is Old Trafford where the Denmark international has ended up.

Confirmation of the deal comes 13 months after Eriksen’s in-game cardiac arrest, which saw the player, in his own words, “die for five minutes” on the pitch at Euro 2020.

A remarkable return to top-level football with Brentford followed seven months later and Eriksen was instrumental in the club’s fine end-of-season form.

Eriksen will now continue in the Premier League with United, three years after rejecting them while still at Spurs.
