Manchester rivals City and United had more cause to celebrate on Friday as Pep Guardiola and Antonio Valencia landed monthly Premier League awards.

City coach Guardiola scooped the manager of the month award after a superb September of four Premier League wins, beating title rivals Liverpool (5-0) and Chelsea away (1-0) as well as crushing victories over Watford (6-0) and Crystal Palace (5-0).

City's win at Stamford Bridge was particularly impressive with Guardiola's side overpowering the champions as the scoreline failed to reflect their dominance.

Those results ensured City ended the month with four wins, 17 goals scored and none conceded, and top of the table on goal difference ahead of Jose Mourinho's United.

The red half of Manchester also had cause for cheer as Valencia's stunning volley in United's 4-0 win against Everton sealed the goal of the month award.

Valencia edged out the likes of Chelsea's Alvaro Morata and Tottenham's Harry Kane, who were up for the award for goals against Stoke and Huddersfield respectively.
