Paul Scholes has been labelled "dumb and dumber" on the official Manchester United podcast after a comical misunderstanding.

Asked to select the best finisher to have played alongside Marcus Rashford, who was in on the video call, Scholes picks Ruud van Nistelrooy after also talking up the abilities of both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Robin van Persie.

"Solskjaer, there's loads," he explains on Utd Podcast. "Van Persie I played with as well, there's some unbelievable goalscorers but, to me, he [Van Nistelrooy] was the best finisher. Ruud for me."

When it's pointed out that the question isn't centred around his own team-mates, Scholes quizzes host Sam: "Why'd you let me say all that then?"

Apologising for the gaffe, the United legend then blames the warm weather before throwing in a couple of expletives for good measure, and taking some more time to think over a new answer.

"You could also put Bruno Fernandes in," Sam interjects, before Scholes takes his chance to claw back some pride.

In good-humoured fashion, the United legend jumps in: "He's not played with him, so what you on about? Wake up Sam!"

Rashford, who has been sidelines since before Fernandes arrived at the club, is seen chuckling his way through the hilarious sequence.

Replying to the clip on Twitter, @terryflewers posted: "This is GOLD!"

@Nippy_N commented: "P45 there scholesy."
