Manchester United 'foiled by imposters' in bid to sign Ander Herrera

Manchester United's bid to sign Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera descended into farce when three imposters allegedly strode into La Liga offices pretending to be officials of the Old Trafford outfit.

According to reports in Spain, the trio managed to get into Spanish league headquarters for discussions about the proposed transfer of the 24-year-old but left an hour later, apparently unable to complete the paperwork required to seal the deal.

Yet United knew nothing of their existence. And as it turned out, the Herrera deal collapsed shortly afterwards anyway, with Moyes believing a 36million euros clause in the player's contract was too high.
