Marcus Rashford could undergo an operation at the end of the Euros after admitting his form has been hit by ongoing physical issues.
The Manchester United forward will make a decision once England’s campaign is over – but surgery on his shoulder is likely to see him miss the start of next season.
Rashford has played through the pain barrier over the past 12 months, but it has impacted his form to the point that he has lost his place in England’s starting line-up. He has also been criticised by United fans after managing just nine Premier League goals.
He insists he has no regrets about his decision not to go under the knife during the campaign – but admits he need to resolve the issue.
Rashford said: “Obviously I am not performing at my best and what I know I can perform to. Whatever that is down to, it doesn’t really matter because it has been going on since early on in the season.
“I managed to get through the season with United. I think I had 36 goal involvements so I can’t look back at the year and say ‘I should have taken time off to do this and do that.’ That’s just not the way I look at things. I just want to be available for every game.”
Regarding his shoulder problems, Rashford added: “I don’t think that’s a secret. I think it’s quite well known and to get to this stage where I am now, it was a massive aim of mine back at the beginning of the season.
“I have to decide after (the Euros). It’s either an operation or I don’t get an operation.
“I’m not 100per cent sure if I need it yet. So I’ll just take it as it comes. I’ll finish strong here and I’ve got a few weeks off to just relax and decide what I’m going to do.
It will be a major blow to United to lose Rashford at the start of the season – but they will also be keen to see him return to full fitness.
Rashford added: “Before I came here, I knew there was no chance I was going to be getting the operation so I did not know how long the operation would put me out for. I never bothered to ask the question.
“I am fully concentrated on here. When the tournament is finished then I will ask the question.”
