Fulham striker Darren Bent hopes that the club can use their draw against Manchester United as inspiration for a push to avoid relegation.

Speaking after he grabbed the equaliser deep into stoppage time at Old Trafford, Bent said: “The team worked so hard in the first half and when you go 2-1 down at these kinds of places you think the worst, but we hoped for one more chance and I managed to put it away.

“I hope this can be a turning point. When you come here you always have it hard but we didn’t let our heads drop.”

Bent’s thoughts were echoed by Fulham captain Steve Sidwell who scored the opening goal with a well taken diving finish.

He said: “It’s a massive point, I’m speechless really. We put a lot of effort in and rode our luck but came away with a point. It was hard. It’s never easy coming here so hopefully we can kick on now for the rest of the season.

Sidwell also claimed he thought Fulham could have sealed victory over United had they taken easy chances in the first half, but the Londoner was content to salvage a point.

He said: “We had chances to put it to bed in the first half and I thought we deserved a point.”
