Manchester United will be playing Champions League football next season after beating Leicester City on the final day of the Premier League season.

Leicester and United's game at the King Power was effectively a straight shootout for Champions League qualification, and Bruno Fernandes' second-half penalty ensured a 1-0 win to secure a top-four finish for the Red Devils.

Things had initially turned notably sour for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following his permanent appointment as United boss, with consecutive defeats by Liverpool and Burnley in January turning the atmosphere around the club toxic.

However, the Red Devils - massively improved by the late January acquisition of Bruno Fernandes - responded in terrific fashion, embarking on a remarkable 19-match unbeaten run across all competitions that left Champions League qualification in their own hands and was finally ended by a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley.

With no domestic cup final to contest this season, United must now turn their attentions back to Europe, with LASK Linz - who trail 5-0 following a pre-lockdown first-leg demolition in Austria - due to visit Old Trafford for the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on August 5.
