Bastian Schweinsteiger has been advised to stay at Bayern Munich for ‘one or two more years’ by club legend Franz Beckenbauer.

The Germany captain has been heavily linked with a summer move to Manchester United, a transfer that would reunite him with former Bayern boss Louis van Gaal.

Conceding that Schweinsteiger could leave this summer, club legend Beckenbauer warned the midfielder against a move to the Premier League insisting that, at his age, he could struggle to adapt to the English game.

Beckenbauer told Bild: "Adapting to a different European league is difficult at his age."

"He has played with great force and put a lot of pressure on his body for many years. That saps energy. He could end his career in the USA instead.

"If I was at Schweini’s place, I would stay one or two years more at Bayern. Until then, he can still perform at the highest level."
