Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp remains insistent Mats Hummels will not leave the club this summer.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with the defender as Louis van Gaal looks to strengthen his back three heading into the new season.

And United missed out on defensive target Thomas Vermaelen, who moved to Barcelona last week, fueling suggestion Old Trafford chiefs will now increase their efforts to land Hummels.

But Klopp has named the Germany international his captain for the new season to help ward off any lingering interest from the Premier League.

And the Dortmund chief has followed up the appointment by reiterating his unwavering stance on the future of his central defender.

“He is going nowhere,” said the Dortmund chief.

“He is staying with us.”

The 25-year-old was left out as fell to a thumping 4-0 defeat - their first of pre-season - in a friendly against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. But Hummels is expected to return to Klopp's XI for the German Supercup on Wednesday.
