Manchester United have seemingly been handed a blow in their reported pursuit of Sergio Ramos after the defender's mother revealed her son wants to stay at Real Madrid.

Ramos has been heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford in recent weeks following reports the 29-year-old is unhappy at Real for allowing his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu to run into its final two years.

The Spanish World Cup and European winner was reported to have told Real president Florentino Perez on Monday that he wanted to move to United this summer after the Premier League side tabled a £28.6 million bid for the defender.

However, Ramos' mother has now dismissed talk of a transfer to the Red Devils after she told a Spanish TV station her son wants to continue his career in Madrid.

After being stopped in her car by a reporter from Chiringuito TV, Paqui Garcia was asked if her son wanted to stay in Madrid, to which she replied: "Absolutely. At Madrid above all else."

When then asked about her son reportedly being interested in joining United, she replied: "No. I don't think so.

"He loves Spain."
