It has proven to be difficult to decide who the finger of blame for the Netherlands' stuttering Euro 2016 qualifying campaign deserves to be pointed at.

The destiny of Danny Blind's side is no longer in their own hands after a damaging 3-0 defeat to Turkey and even a play-off place could now be beyond the Oranje with just two games remaining.

The nucleus of the squad that Louis van Gaal guided to the semi-final stages of last summer's World Cup remains, but their collective performances have been below par.

Now former Netherlands international Willem van Hanegem has taken issue with the failings of one player in particular; Memphis Depay.

The Manchester United forward has been accused of being too selfish while his choice of boot colour was also called into question: "There are a few players at Oranje that only think about themselves.

"Take Memphis for instance. He's just like Goldfinger with his golden shoes. But what is the use of that for Netherlands?"

The 1974 World Cup finalist also went on to criticise the 21-year-old's fashion sense away from the pitch and cheekily suggested that he would not look out of place in an Amish community.

"I don't care that he comes to Oranje with a hat and a scarf.

"What he does outside of the pitch is his own business. But with a couple of suspenders and a beard, he could easily join the Amish people in America and sit on a wagon."
