It's a sight we thought we'd never see - Wayne Rooney back in an Everton shirt.
But that is exactly what Toffees, and indeed Manchester United, fans ended up seeing on Sunday after the Red Devils captain returned to Goodison Park to take part in Duncan Ferguson's testimonial.
Rooney left Everton for Old Trafford in a £27million move 11 years ago, but once again donned an Everton shirt for the match against Villarreal, which the Spanish side won 2-1.
Despite having to endure regular booing by Toffees supporters over the years, Rooney enjoyed a warm reception from the home fans after coming on in the last 15 minutes in the testimonial for his hero Ferguson, who retired in 2006.
"I was delighted with the fans' reaction," Rooney said after the game.
"I didn't know what to expect but it was great for me and my kids, to see me once in an Everton shirt. It brought back some good old memories.
"I enjoyed it. It is nice to come back here and the fans gave me a great reception which obviously I was delighted with."

He added: "Of course, it was a bit different today. Going into the home dressing room again was a bit weird at first. I didn't know what to expect with the reception but it was great and I really appreciate it."
