Anthony Martial’s representatives have launched a defence of the Manchester United forward following recent criticism of his performances for the club.

The France international has scored just two goals since the turn of the year and lost his place in the side in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea two weeks ago before missing Sunday’s draw with Huddersfield through injury.

Former United defender Gary Neville has been among his critics in recent weeks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer forced to defend the 23-year-old’s goal drought.

USFA Management, the agency that represents Martial, has also attempted to silence his critics, comparing the Frenchman’s record to those of club greats Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

A graphic picturing the four players notes Martial has scored 48 goals in his first 173 games for the club – a better return than Giggs (39 in 195), Beckham (40 in 194) and Ronaldo (50 in 190).

The Instagram post was also accompanied by the message: “Criticising is easy, the truth is on the pitch.”

The post however would not appear to have had the desired effect on Man Utd fans, described as “comical” by one user with another describing it as an “insult” to Giggs, Beckham and Ronaldo.

Martial, like most of the United squad, immediately benefited from Solskjaer’s arrival at the club, signing a new contract at Old Trafford in January.
