Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United overhaul has begun after the Premier League confirmed Antonio Valencia and Ander Herrera will head a mass Old Trafford exodus.

Confirmation of United’s retained and released lists revealed 15 out of contract players will exit the club this summer. Solskjær is also prepared to sell several members of his underperforming squad.

While United hoped to tie Paris Saint-Germain-bound Herrera down to a new deal, Valencia was considered surplus to requirements after an injury-hit season.

Juan Mata has been offered a new contract, but is still to make a decision on his future.

James Wilson is another high profile departure, having been considered one the academy’s brightest prospects earlier in his career - even making his debut under Ryan Giggs’ caretaker reign.

Despite having the option of a one-year extension, Solskjaer gave the go-ahead for the striker to leave after spending last year on loan at Aberdeen.

Confirmation of United’s departures came on the day the club announced Solskjaer’s first signing as manager.

Terms have been agreed on Daniel James’ move from Swansea, ahead of the official completion of the deal, which is expected to be next week.

Solskjaer is planning a drastic reshaping of the squad he inherited from Jose Mourinho and is prepared to sell Alexis Sanchez, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian.

A bid of £80million for Romelu Lukaku would also see the Belgium international depart, with Marouane Fellaini already leaving for Shandong Luneng in January.

Mata will be another big-name exit if he opts against accepting what is believed to be a one-year extension on the table.

Regan Poole, who made one appearance for United’s first team was among the players released along with a host of academy prospects, including Zak Dearnley and Matty Willock.

New deals have been offered to Alex Fojticek, Paul Woolston and Luca Ercolani.

Millen Baars, Josh Bohui, Zak Dearnley, Callum Gribbin, Ander Herrera, DJ Buffonge, Matthew Olosunde, Regan Poole, Thomas Sang, James Thompson, Antonio Valencia Tyrell Warren, Callum Whelan, Matty Willock, James Wilson
