Manchester United star Harry Maguire has laughed off his coin toss gaffe, joking ‘It’s been a long time!’.

The England star was involved in the comaical moment before kick-off during Thursday night’s Europa League clash between United and Partizan.

With the likes of Ashley Young, David De Gea and Paul Pogba not involved, Maguire was handed the captain’s armband for the first time since his big money summer move from Leicester.

However, after lining up for the playing of the Europa League anthem, Maguire initially forgot about the coin toss, leaving the officials and opposition skipper Vladimir Stojkovic waiting awkwardly.

Footage of the incident showed the referee calling Maguire back, at which point the 26-year-old jogged back over looking slightly embarrassed, to finish the pre-match formalities.

A clip of the incident went viral, which Maguire himself retweeted, writing: “Last time I did this you did the coin toss in the centre circle. It’s been a long time. #LetMeOff #MUFC”
