Preparations are well under way for Tottenham’s final match at White Hart Lane as the club pays tribute to their home of 118-years and the heroes that once graced the field.

Spurs, who confirmed on Friday that they play at Wembley Stadium next season, have been working for some time on a closing ceremony, what is being referred to as ‘The Finale of White Hart Lane’, to take place around the Manchester United game on May 14.

A number of former players will be invited to the match, including Terry Dyson – part of Tottenham’s double-winning team of 1961 and the Uefa Cup Winners’ Cup triumph in 1963.

The club have also confirmed that the Tottenham Tribute Trust will be the designated charity throughout the Lane’s send-off.

The trust was formed in 2002 to help former Tottenham players facing difficulty either financially, medically or both.

Proceeds will be generated from ‘several sources’ including the sale of memorabilia from the match.

The shirts worn by the players in the final game will be auctioned off, while proceeds from the matchday programme – a special edition priced at £10 – will also go to the trust. A limited-edition pin badge is already on sale.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said: “The Club decided that there could not be a more appropriate organisation to benefit from the celebrations around The Finale of White Hart Lane than the Tottenham Tribute Trust.

“Given the role it has played in serving the needs of former players that have created so many special memories at the Lane over the years, we feel that this is the right time at which to raise awareness of the charity’s fantastic work.

“Caring for the wider Spurs family has always been an integral part of what our Club is about.”

Meanwhile, local residents have also received letters about probable road closures around White Hart Lane soon after the game, so the old ground can start to be taken down.
