Mario Balotelli has been tipped to resurrect his career at AC Milan because the Italian will enjoy a better relationship with the club's coach Sinisa Mihajlovic than Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, according to Marco Materazzi.

Balotelli is on the verge of completing a season-long loan move back to the Rossoneri after enduring a disappointing debut campaign at Anfield in which the Italy international scored just four goals in all competitions last term.

And the 25-year-old's former teammate at Inter Milan, Materazzi, believes Milan coach Mihajlovic will be able to succeed where Rodgers failed by helping Balotelli find his goalscoring form at the San Siro this season.

"I’m happy for him, because he’s like a younger brother to me," Materazzi told Italian publication Corriere Spione.

"I know how he is as a person, and I wouldn’t say this is his last chance, but it’s a golden opportunity which must be exploited.

"I’m sure Sinisa will strike the understanding he couldn’t find with Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers.

"I hope with all my heart that Balotelli will have a great season before going on to represent Italy at the European Championships."

Balotelli is believed to have passed a medical with Milan on Wednesday morning and is close to sealing his loan move after agreeing to take a pay cut to move back to the San Siro.

With the transfer set to be wrapped up in the coming hours, the striker posted a farewell message on his official Facebook page in which hinted he could yet feature for Liverpool in the future.

"I’m grateful to Liverpool FC and Liverpool fans for the time and opportunities you gave me," he wrote above a picture of him appearing to sign his new contract.

"It’s not a goodbye but rather a farewell. I’ll be supporting you guys all the way in every competition… unless you face AC Milan."
