Mauricio Pochettino believes the connection between Tottenham's fans and players gives the club additional "power".

Pochettino led Spurs to a third-place Premier League finish last season and the club's fanbase has bought into his methods.

The Argentine coach employs an aggressive brand of high-pressing football, which has struck a chord with the White Hart Lane faithful.

Spurs are on course to challenge for the title again this season and Pochettino is adamant the fans can help to inspire his side while they are on the pitch.

"It's fantastic and it's key - the connection between the fans and the squad," Pochettino told Tottenham's official website.

"It makes us very proud and it provides us with good energy and power to fight for them and for the club."

The north Londoners travel to Sunderland tonight aiming to cut Chelsea's lead at the top of the table.

Pochettino's side have been installed as clear favourites by virtue of the Black Cats' perilous position but Pochettino is adamant he will not take the game lightly.

"Sunderland are in a situation where they need to win games and win points.

"We’re in a position too where we need to fight for points to be at the top of the table. It will be tough, as always," Pochettino added.
