Mauricio Pochettino perplexed by questions on haircuts, contract photos and losing Tottenham stars to Arsenal

Standard Sport26 September 2016

Mauricio Pochettino is used to dealing with the pressure of press conferences along with leading Tottenham's quest for silverware, but the Spurs coach was thrown a few curveballs ahead of the Champions League tie against CSKA Moscow.

With Spurs preparing to face to Russian giants in Moscow on Tuesday night, Pochettino was treated to questions about his players' haircuts and the possibility of star names during fierce north London rivals during the pre-match conference.

Standard Sport's Tom Collomosse was in attendance to hear one journalist's question - translated from Russian - about which Spurs player has the best haircut had Pochettino perplexed, before the boss put Toby Alderwiereld and Erik Lamela in the running for the best cut.

Pochettino responded: "Toby Alderweireld's is good, Erik Lamela too, some of them need improving but I leave that to you!"

The Spurs coach was also probed during one particularly odd line of enquiry as to whether his trademark pose for Spurs' recent contract extensions was an elaborate ploy to prevent key players signing for Arsenal.

Whether the true nature of the question was lost in translation remains to be seen, but there were more traditional updates from Pochettino on the health of his squad for the trip to Moscow.

The Argentine coach is unwilling to gamble on Eric Dier or Mousa Dembele's fitness for the clash, meaning he will be without five players - Danny Rose, Harry Kane and Moussa the other three missing - for the match.

But Pochettino had positive news about Kane after receiving the results of the forward’s ankle ligament scan, adding: "It is much, much better than we expected. The scan was very positive."
