Mauricio Pochettino: Tottenham must show we have learned from Manchester City mistakes after Chelsea win

Tom Collomosse12 January 2017

Mauricio Pochettino has challenged his Tottenham players to respond to victory over Chelsea better than they did to beating Manchester City.

Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Antonio Conte’s leaders in the last round of Premier League matches underlined their title credentials.

Yet after claiming a similarly impressive win over Manchester City on October 2, Pochettino’s team then won only one of their next 10 games in all competitions.

They have bounced back from that slump with six straight wins since losing at Manchester United on December 11, but Pochettino urged his men not to make the same mistake twice.

"Remember a few months ago, what happened after City?" said Pochettino. "Now is a moment to show we have learned.

"We have a tough game ahead and now we need to show we have learned from a few months ago.

“We dropped our level of performance a bit after a fantastic win over City.

"After beating Chelsea, it is a great chance to show we deserve to be where we are and maintain our momentum.

"It was important to show the maturity that we did against Chelsea.

"Perhaps it wasn’t our best performance but we competed, which was a quality we maybe missed a little bit last season."

Tottenham have a full squad against Albion with the exception of Erik Lamela, who is still working with Roma’s medical team as he tries to recover from a hip problem.

The Argentina attacker has not played since October and Pochettino refused to put a possible date on his return.
