Mauricio Pochettino believes his young Tottenham players will improve from the experience of exiting the EFL Cup against Liverpool on Tuesday night.
A weakened Spurs side faced a tough chalenge against Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool at Anfield, with two goals from Daniel Sturridge putting the hosts in command of the last-16 tie.
Vincent Janssen struck a penalty 16 minutes from time to set up a nail-biting finish, but Spurs could not find a way back into the game as they were knocked out of the competition.
Pochettino was left impressed by the character of his side, sying after the game: "I'm pleased with the performance but not the result. We fought until the end and created chances.
"It was a great experience and we can take a lot of positives. This will improve our confidence for the future."
Janssen - who notched his second goal from the penalty spot after Erik Lamela was fouled by Lucas Leiva - was left frustrated by the result: "As a striker it's nice to score but it's more disappointing that we've lost the game."
Michel Vorm made a number of fine saves, including a one-on-one stop from Danny Ings in the closing stages, to keep Spurs in the game during an action-packed second half.
Sturridge, who also hit the bar with a deflected shot late on, was left on the bench for Saturday's Premier League win against West Brom but was happy to feature from the start against Spurs.
He said: "It's a nice feeling [to be back], but I'm grateful to god for helping me get through all the things I've had to go through and I'm happy with tonight.
"We had a lot of chances, we played some good football, so I think we deserved it in the end."
