Mauricio Pochettino is upbeat about Danny Rose's injury and has described the full-backs issue as 'minor'.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to Liverpool, Pochettino remained cagey on the fitness of left-back Rose, who saw a specialist about a knee problem earlier this week. The England international is thought to have done some damage to medial ligaments that is likely to rule him out of action for at least the rest of this month, but Pochettino said he was optimistic about the 26-year-old’s improvement.

“He is very positive and we are very positive,” Pochettino added. “He is happy and it is not a big issue. It is a minor problem and we hope he can be available again as soon as possible.

“Jan Vertonghen (who has had an ankle injury) will maybe next week be available again to work with the team.

Pochettino also urged his side to believe Chelsea could be caught.

“The important thing is to reduce the gap to Chelsea,” he said. “Although they are not in a good run, Liverpool have one of the best squads in England.”

Pochettino also confirmed Spurs had appointed Steve Hitchen, who returns for a second spell at the club, in a senior scouting role. He will start work on Monday.

It is thought, though, that the club are still looking for a head of recruitment to replace the outgoing Paul Mitchell, who resigned last August but is serving a lengthy notice period.
