Memphis Depay has been tipped to be back playing at his best form for Manchester United by his teammate David De Gea.

Depay arrived at Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven to much fanfare in the summer and quickly cemented his place in Louis van Gaal's first-choice team.

But the forward subsequently lost his starting berth in the Red Devils' side after some below-par performances before he was then given the chance to impress against Watford at the weekend.

And after Depay scored a superb goal in the 2-1 victory with his volley from Ander Herrera's cross, De Gea believes the Dutchman's improved showing against the Hornets is proof the forward is back on track.

"He has had a tough few weeks and I'm sure he'll soon be back at the top of his game," De Gea told MUTV.

"He's going to bring a lot to the team and I'm sure he'll be really up for playing against his old club.

"We know it will be a difficult game but we need to get the victory and grab the three points."

United host Depay's former side, PSV, in the Champions League on Wednesday night with Van Gaal looking for nothing other than a victory, which will see the Red Devils book their place in the last 16 of the competition.

The Dutch side beat United in the reverse fixture in September - a game in which Luke Shaw also broke his leg in - and De Gea has now admitted his delight at United having reacted to that defeat by winning two games and drawing another.

"We had quite a few chances and I don't think we deserved to lose the first game against PSV. We have the chance to play against them at home and if we can beat them, we are through to the next stage," De Gea added.

"We know it will be a difficult game but we need to get the victory and grab the three points. We started off with a defeat in the first game, but since then we've steadily been picking up points.

"A win would put us through to the next stages, so now we're just a small step away from qualification."
