Arsenal striker Carlos Vela has been banned for six months by Mexico for allegedly throwing a party at the team hotel following a friendly against Colombia earlier this month.
Celtic midfielder Efrain Juarez received the same punishment and 11 other players, including Tottenham's Giovani dos Santos and West Ham's Pablo Barrera, were fined £2,500 for violating the national federation's code of conduct following the 1-0 win in Monterrey on 8 September.
National team director Nestor de la Torre said: "Vela and Juarez will be suspended for six months from the date of these events, for calls for the national team, because there were faults in four sections of the national team rules."
Vela made his international debut against Brazil in 2007 and has won 33 caps for his country.
The 21-year-old, who led the line for Arsenal against Spurs last night before making way for Marouane Chamakh, saw his World Cup in South Africa cut short when he damaged his hamstring against France.
Meanwhile, there was some good news for Vela's club team-mate Kieran Gibbs.
Scans today revealed the 20-year-old full-back did not break his foot in last night's Carling Cup win at White Hart Lane.
Arsenal confirmed that Gibbs will only be ruled out of first-team action "for the short term".
