Manchester United fans were sent into a spin on Sunday as the club's official photographer Craig Norwood followed Morgan Schneiderlin on Twitter.

Louis van Gaal is looking for a deep-lying midfielder but it is understood Bayern Munich's Bastian Schweinsteiger is the Dutchman's preferred option.

If the Germany international opts against a reunion with Van Gaal, who managed him at Bayern between 2009-2011, Schneiderlin would be seen as another strong addition to the midfield.

The France international has been in talks with the club and United's press photographer has since followed the midfielder on social media, leading to speculation among supporters that a deal has been agreed.

The excitement comes after Arsenal's photographer last week followed Petr Cech, triggering a similar response from the Gunners faithful. On that occasion, however, the Gunners media man Stuart MacFarlane moved to distance himself from suggestions he knows about transfer negotiations.
