Sacked: Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has left Chelsea following the club's worst start to a season since 1978.

The Blues boss oversaw his side's ninth defeat in 16 Premier League matches this term as their title defence fell by the wayside just weeks into the new season.

Victory over Porto in the Champions League last week bought the Portuguese manager some time as Chelsea advanced to the last-16 as group winners. But subsequent defeat to league-leaders Leicester on Monday proved the final nail in Mourinho's coffin and the boss parted ways with the club on Thursday.

Guus Hiddink, who was Chelsea's interim coach following Roman Abramovich's decision to sack Luiz Felipe Scolari in 2009, was instantly installed as the favourite to succeed Mourinho and betting was suspended on the Dutchman taking the reins within minutes of news that Chelsea had dismissed their manager.
