Nani gets chance to prove Fergie wrong

Nani has three months to save his Manchester United career — starting tomorrow against Wigan.

The winger was linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the summer after Sir Alex Ferguson became increasingly frustrated with his form, meaning he could be offloaded in the January transfer window.

But with Shinji Kagawa, Robin van Persie and Ashley Young all doubts, Nani could get another chance to prove his worth. Wayne Rooney is still sidelined after suffering a gashed leg against Fulham, while Kagawa and Van Persie sustained injuries during the international break.

Ferguson is reluctant to rush the trio back for the visit of Roberto Martinez’s side, especially because United begin their Champions League campaign against Galatasaray next week.

Nani has two years remaining on his deal and contract negotiations have stalled because he is believed to be asking for as much as £130,000 a week.

Russian side Zenit St Petersburg launched a bid to sign the 25-year-old earlier this month but his wage demands proved a stumbling block. It is understood the Portugal international, who joined United for £17million in 2007, may be tempted by a move to Juventus, with the Italians considering a bid in January.
