National Poetry Day: Arsenal fans celebrate as Tottenham relive a stunning Dele Alli goal

Standard Sport6 October 2016

National Poetry Day has sparked the sporting world into a bout of creativity, with north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham celebrating in very different ways on Thursday.

The annual literary initiative was launched by the Forward Arts Foundation, a charity that celebrates excellence in poetry and widens its audience.

Premier League enemies Spurs and Arsenal rarely see eye to eye, but the clubs found common ground in celebration on Thursday via social media.

Arsenal took to Twitter with a video of Arsenal fans declaring their loyalty to the club in song. As Benjamin Franklin said, he that falls in love with himself has no rivals.

Spurs went one better though, describing Dele Alli's stunning goal against Crystal Palace last season as "poetry in motion!"

Meanwhile, the gold medal-winning Team GB women's hockey team composed a neat limerick to heroic goalkeeper Maddie Hinch, who saved all four penalties in a final shootout against Netherlands.

"There was once a goalie named Hinch/Who made all the Dutch players flinch/She took home a gold/By playing so bold/And making shootouts simply look a cinch!"
