Neil Warnock eyes Sheffield Wednesday move despite hate from fans

Moving on? Neil Warnock has been linked with the vacant Sheffield Wednesday job
11 April 2012

Neil Warnock has stunned Crystal Palace by refusing to rule out a move away from Selhurst Park to become the new manager at Sheffield Wednesday.

Warnock has emerged as a shock candidate for the vacant position despite being a hate figure among many of the Wednesday fans.

He was in charge of their city rivals Sheffield United for seven-and-a-half years before he took over at Crystal Palace in 2007.

Palace are just three points from being in the Championship play-offs and are 15 ahead of Wednesday, who are in the relegation zone. But the Eagles are beset by financial problems and Warnock admits there is a possibility he will have to move on by the end of the month.

Palace chairman Simon Jordan is facing a court hearing on 27 January over a £1.2million tax demand having only just agreed a £4.5m deal with creditor investment company Agilo to prevent the club from going into administration.

Warnock said: "If I'm out of work I will look at any job. We will have to see what happens in the next few weeks. If the club go into administration then my contract won't mean anything. We haven't been paid for five weeks.

"Sheffield Wednesday are a big club and I will consider anyone if I'm out of work. But all I am thinking about is the next game with Palace.

"It's a tough enough job with what I'm doing here without worrying about other people. I just have to get on with what I have got here and what will be, will be."

Sheffield Wednesday, who sacked Brian Laws last month, have money worries of their own as they are a reported £26m in debt, but Warnock spoke about them in glowing terms after Palace's FA Cup at Hillsborough on Saturday.

He said: "If I'd got money, this would be the club I'd buy."
