England have unveiled their new home and away kits for the European Championships in France this summer.

Whilst sticking to the traditional white home colours and red away that England have predominantly worn throughout their history the uniforms include a number of bold sartorial details that may provoke a mixed reaction from supporters.

The home kit features red socks as opposed to a more customary white or blue socks, with the latter colour used for the away socks.

Both strips feature shading on the shoulders, the home including a pale blue patch and the away a darker red.

Captain Wayne Rooney was joined by Josh Onomah, Toni Duggan, Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Steph Houghton and Jordon Ibe to promote the new shirts.

The bright red socks are designed to celebrate the kit worn by England when they triumphed in the Maracana in 1984, while the away strip is designed to mark the 50th anniversary of their World Cup triumph.

A full adult replica kit will set customers back £101, with a shirt priced at £60, shorts at £28 and socks at £13.

Martin Lotti, Nike creative director, said: “For both kits we set out with the goal of bringing together the colours that are synonymous with English football: white, red and blue – flashes of contrast are used to illustrate innovative details such as the cross-dyed knitted sleeves and the ventilation-enhancing stripe on the sides of the shirts and shorts.”

Nike have hailed the new shirts as 10 per cent lighter and with 50 per cent more stretch than previous editions. They employ a new, textured high-performance yarn that wicks sweat from the skin 20% faster than Nike’s most recent football kits, while also drying 25% faster.

Each kit is made from an average of 16 recycled plastic bottles.
