Newcastle target late move for Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs - Deadline day's top transfer stories

Wanted man: Newcastle are interested in the Gunners full-back
Sam Long1 February 2016

It's transfer deadline day; the moment the majority of Premier League fans have been waiting for all month.

January has been relatively quiet for most clubs and Arsenal have been no different with Mohamed Elneny the only significant arrival at the Emirates thus far.

Arsene Wenger has admitted he expects to oversee a low key ending to proceedings, unless Lionel Messi knocks on his door, but the Frenchman could have some thinking to do.

New reports suggest that Newcastle want to sign Gunners full-back Kieran Gibbs, who has fallen down the pecking order in north London this season.

The England international was previously regarded as Ashley Cole's long-term successor but has struggled for form of late and has been usurped by Nacho Monreal.

The Spaniard continues to impress on the left-hand side of defence, which has been detrimental to Gibbs, who is still hopeful he will be included in Roy Hodgson's Euro 2016 squad.

Would Wenger sanction the defender's exit? It looks like he could, but only if he secures adequate cover for Nacho Monreal.
