Niko Kranjcar injury is a huge setback for Spurs

Ankle injury: Niko Kranjcar will require an operation
11 April 2012

Tottenham were dealt a major blow in their bid to qualify for the Champions League when Niko Kranjcar was ruled out of the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

The Croatian sustained ligament damage during extra-time of the FA Cup semi-final defeat by Portsmouth and has since been using crutches and wearing a protective boot on his left foot.

Kranjcar will require an operation on an injury boss Harry Redknapp describes as "long term", which is a big setback to Spurs.

Since joining the club for £2.5million last summer, the player has scored eight goals and provided considerable craft on the left of midfield. "Kranjcar will need an operation on the ankle," said Redknapp.

"It looks a bad injury and I don't know how he managed to play on in extra-time with it.

"Vedran Corluka is also struggling with his ankle but there is a chance he might play again for us this season."

Despite his injury problems, Redknapp is still buoyant after defeating Arsenal on Wednesday but feels Spurs need at least eight more points to finish in fourth place.

"We need to win two and draw two at least to give ourselves a chance," he added.
